This is a bang.

With Shell, for the first time a multinational energy company has to pay for the consequences of the global burning of fossil fuels.

The company brought prosperity to many Dutch people, especially the royal family as major shareholders.

The judges in The Hague did well to ignore the past: As a global company, Shell has an enormous impact on climate change.

Corrections in the business model may have a direct impact on the reduction in CO2 emissions - “even more than in individual countries”, at least the court said.

But a 45 percent reduction by 2030 is very ambitious even for a company with high research budgets like Shell.

But the struggle for the Paris climate goals is already lost if even those do not tackle the fight against climate change who have the financial means to innovate.

The court took the wind out of the sails of Shell's objection that it was not the only culprit.

Shell can still appeal the judgment.

Or start right away to fulfill your obligation.
