It is a thunderclap in Iranian political life.

If the disqualification of former President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was expected, on the other hand that of moderate conservative Ali Larijani, close to the current president, and reformer Es-Hagh Jahanguiri is a major surprise.

Indeed Ali Larijani, who was Speaker of Parliament for twelve years, is currently adviser to the Iranian Supreme Leader.

In any case, the Council of Guardians of the Constitution has retained the names of seven people, five conservatives, including the current Head of Justice, Ebrahim Raissi, and two moderates not well known to voters.

Now the way is open for

Ebrahim Raissi

, a cleric close to the Iranian Supreme Leader.

The current Head of Justice therefore has every chance of succeeding Hassan Rouhani.

He was beaten four years ago by the current president.

Ebrahim Raïssi presents himself as the opponent of corruption and the defenders of the poor classes.

The rejection of moderate and reformist candidates could affect participation.

According to several polls, abstention could exceed 50%.
