The Government must convene an extraordinary Council of Ministers to give continuity to the aid scheme for workers and companies affected by the crisis derived from Covid as of June 1. Businessmen and unions have rejected the Executive's proposal that the Minister of Social Security, José Luis Escrivá, has transferred to them. There are six days left for the current scheme to expire and the negotiation will try to redirect itself to reach a pact that can be approved next Friday in the Council of Ministers.

Escrivá has insisted on reducing the exemptions for companies that remain in ERTe but unions and employers have insisted that it is still early, in his opinion, for a withdrawal of aid, even if it is gradual. Their counteroffer is to face this debate in September, last summer. The Government, which has declared its intention to approve the plan, even without the support of the parties, has not agreed and the social agents accept the bid. "If it is not an extension of the current scheme, the Government will have to do it alone", have indicated sources of both the representatives of the workers and the employers.

The relationship between the Ministry of Labor and employers has been strained in recent days. The attendance last Thursday of the Vice President and Minister of Labor,

Yolanda Díaz

, at the official presentation of

Conpymes

, the business platform that aspires to

challenge

CEOE and Cepyme for

a position in the social dialogue with the Government and unions is interpreted by the employers as a "pressure measure" that does not distract them from their activities. Díaz accompanied

Begoña Gómez

, wife of President Pedro Sánchez, in what the businessmen considered explicit support for organizations that question their representation in social dialogue.

"The presence of the vice president and the president's wife inviting the creation of this platform makes a clear and evident reading that it is a measure of pressure for social dialogue," said the president of Cepyme,

Gerardo Cuerva

, during the presentation of the conference 'Situation of SMEs: reopening without recovery'.

"We are dedicated to defending SMEs, which today are having a hard time. Others have other intentions and different paths. We are a business organization, with more than 40 years old, that defends the interests of SMEs, we have more than 3,000 associations and what we are not going to do is change course due to external pressures that may arise, "Cuerva added.

The presence at the institutional act of birth of Conpymes occurred at a delicate moment in

the negotiations to extend the current aid and ERTE scheme, which expires next Monday, May 31

.

Cepyme, together with CEOE, negotiates this same morning with the Government and the unions that extension in the midst of a tense environment due to the conditions proposed by the Ministry of Social Security and due to the fact that, if an agreement is not reached this afternoon , the Executive must convene an extraordinary Council of Ministers to approve it, with or without the support of the social agents.
