The automotive group Stellantis, resulting from the recent merger of Peugeot-Citroën and Fiat-Chrysler, and the Taiwanese giant of the manufacture of electronic products Foxconn, announced on Tuesday the launch of a joint venture aiming to develop connected cockpits, intended to all manufacturers.

The automobile group Stellantis, born from the merger between PSA and Fiat-Chrysler, announced on Tuesday the signing of a partnership with Foxconn, the manufacturer of the iPhone.

The two partners are going to launch a joint venture to design cockpits, these interiors for vehicles, connected.

“Vehicles of the future will increasingly be software-driven, and software-designed,” said Young Liu, president of Foxconn.

This conglomerate, known in particular for assembling Apple iPhones, is seeking to diversify into the automobile sector to participate in the design of electric and connected vehicles.

Indeed, since cars are increasingly connected and autonomous, manufacturers must adapt quickly.

So, rather than embarking on years of research and spending billions of dollars to create software, they choose strategic partnerships.

Renault had announced an alliance with Google for the connected world of its cars.

The Stellantis group therefore opted for Foxconn.

A "win-win" partnership

For José Baghdad, consultant specializing in the automotive sector at PwC, the interest of these two partners is mutual.

"It is a partnership which aims to be win-win", he specifies.

"Winner for Stellantis, with an ability to accelerate their production transformation of smart connected vehicles. And for Foxconn, it is also a winning bet that will allow them to broaden their playing field in the development of all that is electronic They will be essential, as they are today on mobile telephony, for example, "explains the consultant.

"We want to go fast," he added, noting that all the brands of the group were a priori concerned.
