In a survey that indexes consumption trends based on credit card usage information, it fell by more than 5% in the second half of last month compared to the same period two years ago, before the spread of the new coronavirus infection.

Nowcasting, a data analysis company, and JCB, a major credit card company, publish an index that looks at consumption after protecting privacy based on card usage information.

According to it, the index from 16th to 30th of last month was 5.6% lower than the same period two years ago, which was before the spread of the new corona.

Looking at the breakdown, "accommodation" was minus 64.8%, "travel" was minus 64.4%, "entertainment" was minus 35.5%, and "restaurant" was minus 26%.

On the other hand, in the so-called “nest-going consumption”, “content distribution” such as videos increased significantly to 71.8%, and “online mail order” also increased by 33.4%.

According to the company surveyed, "There is a possibility that consumption such as accommodation and travel will decrease further in the future, partly due to the expansion of the area covered by the state of emergency."
