• Textile retailers from the Mulliez galaxy will produce part of their jeans in the north of France.

  • Around 410,000 pieces of denim will come out by 2024 from this factory, which will employ around 100 people.

  • This production unit should also be more eco-responsible, particularly in terms of the volume of water used.

The six textile brands of the Mulliez galaxy announced on Monday that they would relocate by the end of 2021 in France, in the North, part of their production of denim items.

An approach presented as "responsible" and aimed at "making made in France accessible".

The production site, called FashionCube Denim Center (from the name of the entity bringing together these six brands), should come into service during the last quarter of 2021, in Neuville-en-Ferrain, in the Lille metropolis.

A total of 105 jobs are to be created there within three years.

Less than 6% of the titular production of these brands

This plant represents an investment of 3.5 million euros, including 800,000 euros in subsidies from the Hauts-de-France region and the European Metropolis of Lille (MEL).

It is expected to produce 410,000 jeans per year by 2024.

“This is a little less than 6% of the total volume of jeans produced by our brands,” explains Christian Kinnen, project manager.

“We could very quickly ask ourselves the question of increasing volumes, or even extending the relocation to other products,” he adds.

The denim products of these six brands (Jules, Pimkie, Bizbee, Grain de Malice, Orsay and RougeGorge Lingerie) are now manufactured in Asia, Turkey and the Maghreb. With an equivalent model, those which will leave the northern site will be sold "approximately 20% more expensive", specifies Christian Kinnen, stressing that they will be the subject of "valuation work at the point of sale, with potential customers" . "We consider that this Denim center is a '' demonstrator '' that producing in France, at an affordable price [40 to 60 euros for jeans] is possible", continues this manager.

“The entire manufacturing process will be […] optimized to limit its environmental footprint.

The plant will operate in a short circuit "and will use" 40 times less water during washing ", according to a press release from FashionCube.

"As for the treatment of the parts, it will be for the most part" carried out with ozone and laser to bypass the traditional polluting techniques in the manufacture of denim clothing ".
