The Madrid company founded in 1873,

Viena Capellanes

, has communicated to the workers its intention to process an Employment Regulation File (ERE) for productive causes that, according to Europa Press, will affect a maximum of 280 workers of the more than 600 that make up the template.

The company has declared in a statement that "it is forced to take this measure due to the strong impact of teleworking and the measures to make working hours more flexible for companies", which has led to a change in consumer habits in the different lines of the company's business. "The world has changed, and with it our clients have changed, and although we hoped that the teleworking measures and flexibilization of the working day that companies took on during the pandemic would gradually disappear, the truth is that not only have they not disappeared but that they have become permanent, "the general director of Viena Capellanes,

Antonio Lence

, explained in a statement to the workers

.

Lence explained that

his 'corner' clients have already closed 10 points of sale definitively and many others have warned of the definitive expansion of teleworking

, "which makes future return unfeasible", and added: "This not only affects us directly in a corner: the same happens in many of the public and private offices, as well as in the businesses around our stores, which are disappearing or permanently reducing the number of days they work in person (thereby reducing the influx of public to our premises) and in the vast majority of our catering clients, which has almost completely wiped out the corporate business, "says Lence.

In addition, it has ensured that all these measures have an indirect effect on the production, distribution and administration areas of the group, whose activity has been "drastically diminished".

The ERE will affect three of the group's companies

and the objective is to guarantee the future viability of the family business, which has

been under the management of the Lence family for more than 100 years

. "The people ultimately affected by the ERE will be accompanied during the process both by an external provider highly specialized in outplacement and by the Human Resources Department of Viena Capellanes itself ", stressed Antonio Lence.

The management team and the Lence family have stated that this ERE is a "particularly painful decision" after almost 14 months of "exhausting struggle to survive", in which commercial actions have been maximized and new lines of business have been developed, in addition to undertake the opening of three new stores in order to recover the activity lost in recent months.

The company insists that it is forced to make this adjustment in order to guarantee its survival and adapt to the current and future market situation, while maintaining the maximum number of possible jobs.
