The eviction of four Palestinian families from the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood was

at the heart of the violence of the past two days

on the Mosque Esplanade, and at the Damascus Gate, which left more than 300 Palestinians injured.

The hearing scheduled for Monday which was to rule on the fate of these families has finally been postponed.

"

In light of the current context, and at the request of the Attorney General, the hearing scheduled for Monday is canceled, a new date will be announced within 30 days,

" read the statement from the Israeli justice ministry. .

In the meantime, Sheikh Jarrah's families will stay at home, until justice is decided. But that does not mean a return to calm in the neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah. These four families are still threatened with forced displacement, and this postponement is far from a victory for the inhabitants.

According to Muna al Kurd, a resident of the neighborhood, this postponement was expected. "

Freezing the decision does not mean canceling it, it is part of Israeli procedures, making decisions last, so we must step up our efforts,

" she said. This postponement does not occur at random either, right at the time when the Palestinian population is mobilized, to block after two days of violence on the part of the police in Jerusalem. Palestinian legal associations make it clear: "

Israel thus intends to gain time so that solidarity diminishes

 ".

Earlier in the afternoon, lawyers for the families of Sheikh Jarrah, Sami Arshid and Husni Abu Hussein, requested that the Israeli attorney general be involved in the process, because, they say, this case has political implications, for the entire Palestinian population of Jerusalem.
