Keidanren has decided to replace Chairman Hiroaki Nakanishi, who will retire in the middle of his term due to medical treatment for lymphoma, with Masakazu Tokura, Chairman of the major chemical manufacturer Sumitomo Chemical.
Mr. Tokura is 70 years old.
He has been Chairman of Sumitomo Chemical since 2019, and after serving as Vice Chairman of Keidanren, he is currently Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees.
At Keidanren, Chairman Nakanishi, who was hospitalized again from last summer due to recurrence of lymphoma, has shown that he will retire in the middle of his term of office for two terms and four years, so he has been selecting a successor.
According to the people concerned, Mr. Tokura, who is the head of the chemical manufacturer and has abundant business activities, has decided that he is suitable for the successor chairman, so he will officially announce it on the afternoon of the 10th.
