The Federal Center for Competitiveness and Statistics confirmed that the UAE has made great leaps in its ranking within the global competitiveness indicators related to five economic sectors during the year 2020, compared to 2019, despite the many challenges that the "Covid-19" pandemic has imposed on the world's economies.

In a recent report issued recently, the center stated about the UAE’s performance in competitiveness indicators in 2020 in five economic sectors: economy, digital economy, trade, foreign trade, and entrepreneurship. “Emirates Today” obtained a copy of it, that «the UAE It achieved a big leap in 37 indicators of competitiveness, and maintained its advanced positions in many indicators, to continue its progress towards the first positions in various sectors, supported by the packages of incentives that it provided to the economic sectors.

According to the center, the indicators are based on seven major global competitiveness reports issued by international bodies: the Global Competitiveness Yearbook, the Digital Competitiveness Yearbook, the Global Innovation Index, the Well-being Index, the Global Competitiveness Index, the Global Talent Competitiveness Index, and the Social Progress Index.

The economy sector

With regard to the economy sector, the UAE jumped 46 places in the “consumer price inflation decline index”, to rank first in the world in this index during 2020, compared to 47th in 2019.

The country also jumped in the "Actual Growth in Household Expenditure Index", which is one of the indicators of the rise in the standard of living, to rank first in the world in the index, compared to the 57th position in the world in 2019.

Doing business

The UAE also jumped eight ranks in the “Ease of Doing Business Environment Index”, to rank 10 in the world, compared to 18 in 2019, and advanced seven places in the “Starting a Business Index”, to be ranked eighth in the world compared to 15th in 2019.

The report also revealed that the UAE has advanced seven places in the "prevalence of competition in the local market" index, ranking 11th globally, compared to 18th in 2019, and three places in the "country’s image abroad index" have jumped to rank fourth in the world instead of ranked Seventh.

The country has also advanced one place in the “Measures Necessary to Start a Business Index”, ranking fifth instead of sixth in 2019, and six ranks advanced in the “Ease of Starting a Business Index”, ranking 16th in the world instead of 22nd.

Antitrust

According to the report, the UAE jumped 16 places in antitrust policies, 39 centers in gross capital formation, and 28 places in actual growth in total fixed capital formation.

Also, 26 centers jumped in high and medium technology with added value, nine centers in patent productivity, seven centers in the low rate of fees or tariffs applied, and three positions advanced in the index of total financial savings, and three positions in the index of organizing property acquisition.

The center pointed out that the UAE has managed, despite challenges, to maintain its advanced positions in many indicators of the economic sector, as it has maintained the first place in the world in several indicators, most notably the partnership between the public and private sectors, the index of stability of production sites, in addition to Maintaining the fifth position in the world in the ratio of total domestic savings to GDP.

Digital economy

With regard to the indicators of the "digital economy", the center revealed that the UAE made many leaps in global competitiveness during the pandemic, most notably the progress of 20 centers in the index of using virtual professional networks, which are used in Internet communication in business, ranking first in the world in general. 2020, compared to 21st place globally in 2019.

Four centers in Internet use also jumped, to rank fifth in the world, compared to ninth in the world in 2019. Seven centers in possession of the population's tablet computer also jumped to rank 14th in the world, compared to 21st in the world in 2019.

Foreign trade

In the foreign trade sector, the UAE jumped five places in the index of creative exports of goods, to rank eighth in the world in 2020, instead of the 13th in the world in 2019, and also jumped 20 places in net imports of advanced technologies, and nine places in net technical exports. Finance, and seven centers in exports of information and communication technology services

The country jumped 10 places in the index of the share of industrial exports in total exports, five places in the index of industrial exports per capita, and three places in the net outflow of foreign direct investment.

Trade sector

In the trade sector, the UAE jumped 11 places in the growth index in commercial services exports.

It also jumped 23 places in the commercial services balance index relative to GDP, and 20 places in the commercial services balance index.

Five centers also jumped in importing commercial goods and services as a percentage of total trade, and three centers in exporting exports by product.

The country maintained its eighth rank in the world in the focus on exports from partners index.

The center's report showed that with regard to the entrepreneurship sector, the UAE has advanced 26 places in the index of new entrepreneurial product activity, and has maintained its ninth position in the world in the spread of small and medium enterprises.
