I attributed it to "competitiveness", smooth supply and diversification of imports

Al-Eqtisadiah: 20% drop in consumer complaints since the beginning of Ramadan

Marwan Al-Sabousi: "The increase in campaigns supported the stability of the markets, and reflected positively on the percentage of consumers' complaints being received."

The Director of the Competition and Consumer Protection Department at the Ministry of Economy, Marwan Al-Sabousi, confirmed that consumer complaints have registered an estimated 20% decline since the beginning of the current month of Ramadan, and until the present time, compared to the previous Ramadan season.

He added in statements to "Emirates Today" that indicators of a decline in consumer complaints have appeared remarkably since the beginning of the month of fasting, especially with regard to price rises of various commodities.

He attributed this to factors related to the increase in competitiveness among sales outlets in offering discounts, the streamlining of supply, and the increase in the diversity of imports from different countries of origin, which in turn contributed to the stability of the markets in general, and the expansion of discounts offers.

Al-Sabousi explained that the current Ramadan season has witnessed a remarkable increase in the participation of medium and small sales outlets in offering expanded offers for Ramadan discounts, which strengthened competitiveness in the markets and reflected positively on consumers.

He stressed that the ministry is working to motivate consumers to participate in the "watched consumer" initiative, which allows any consumer to monitor any variables or abuses in the markets, and to communicate quickly with the consumer protection sector, to effectively deal with these observations and verify any violations that are monitored.

He pointed out that the Ministry, in cooperation with the concerned local departments, had carried out a large number of monitoring and follow-up campaigns since the beginning of the month of Ramadan, exceeding 450 field trips during the first 20 days of the month of fasting, which exceeds the targeted plans, which included the implementation of only 420 field trips throughout the month.

He emphasized that the increase in campaigns and field trips, along with the activity of local departments, contributed to supporting the stability of markets, which was positively reflected in the rates of receiving consumer complaints.
