With the extension of the state of emergency, Tokyo and Osaka Prefecture will continue to request closures to large commercial facilities, while department store companies will comply with the request.

On the other hand, as severe management continues, there are moves to expand the sales floor by reviewing the range of "necessities for daily life" that are not subject to leave requests at stores in Tokyo.

Tokyo and Osaka Prefecture, whose emergency declaration deadline has been extended by 31st of this month, will continue to request closures of large-scale commercial facilities with a floor area of more than 1000 square meters, except for the "necessities for daily life" section.

In response, department store companies are reviewing the scope of "necessities for daily life" and expanding the sales floor, which was limited to food and cosmetics.

Of these, "Takashimaya" has resumed operations such as bedding and clothing specialty stores only in stores in Tokyo, and "Tobu Department Store Ikebukuro Main Store" has resumed operations such as eyeglasses and nursing care products.

The Japan Department Store Association stated in a request submitted to the government on the 6th that it would like to expand its business to the extent possible while considering the actual conditions of the region.

With the spread of the infection uncertain, the performance of department store companies continues to be difficult, and it is expected that the range of daily necessities will be reexamined and the search for expansion of the sales floor will continue after the beginning of the week.
