The expected economic recovery did not appear in the first quarter of 2021. After one year of the emergence of Covid 19 in Spain, the comeback in V of the labor market has been ruled out, which has seen how the unemployment rate has escalated to 15 , 9% from 14.4% 12 months ago, and reaches 3.65 million unemployed.
Between January and March, 137,000 jobs were destroyed, assumed entirely by the private sector, which eliminated 155,800 jobs compared to the 18,000 that the sector increased. Households that have all their active members unemployed soar by 14%, increasing this quarter by 152,000 compared to those in the first three months of 2020, to a total of 1,226,200.
In the first quarter of last year, the effects of a health crisis that was going to last four months and that hit the labor market thanks to economic hibernation had already led almost 600,000 people to inactivity due to the ERTE and the destruction of 285,000 jobs.
By establishing a quarterly average between January and March, the INE statistics failed to reflect the impact of a state of alarm declared in the last two weeks of the period analyzed, in mid-March.
