Last year (2020), the three major operators made a total of about 32.488 billion yuan in the first quarter, and a daily profit of about 357 million yuan. Compared with 2020, the three major operators' daily net profit increased by about 7% year-on-year.

In an interview with the China-Singapore Jingwei reporter, Zhang Xiaorong, Dean of Deepin Technology Research Institute, pointed out that the fundamentals of the three major operators are relatively stable and maintain a synchronized development pattern. With the economic recovery, the year-on-year growth rate of performance has also begun to recover.

Among them, China Mobile still has the strongest earning power, with revenue accounting for about half of the total of the three companies, and net profit accounting for 70% of the total of the three companies. The base growth rate is the lowest. The overall pattern has not changed much from the past.

Zhang Xiaorong also said that the three major operators will face the test of cost growth in the future.

With the increase of 5G users, the electricity cost of 5G network will also rise sharply.

In the next period of time, how to achieve a balance between cost and revenue has become a new topic that will test the three major operators.

Zhang Xiaorong said that the total number of customers in China in 2020 has reached a historical peak, but China Mobile's users have been losing.

There are roughly three reasons: one is that the total number of users has reached the ceiling, the other is that the 5G network has shunted, and the third is that users are transferred after the number portability is opened.

Zhang Xiaorong added that the continuous loss of users is a wake-up call for operators. China Mobile has reached a critical moment when it must reform. To consolidate its user base, it must find the root cause and work hard to improve user satisfaction.
