Renesas Electronics announced that sales for the entire group for the three months to March increased by 14% from the same period last year to 203.6 billion yen, and operating income, which indicates the profit of the main business, was 30.1 billion yen, which is about 2.2 times higher. did.



This is due to the growing global demand for semiconductors, especially for automobiles.



In addition, regarding the earnings forecast for the six months to June, it has been revealed that sales will increase by 16% to 19% from the same period of the previous year to about 400 billion yen.



Regarding Renesas, a fire broke out at its main factory in Ibaraki prefecture in the middle of last month, and production of semiconductors for automobiles was stopped for about a month.



It is expected that it will take some time for product shipments to return to pre-fire levels, but demand is expected to increase in the future due to the global semiconductor shortage.

At the press conference, President Hidetoshi Shibata said, "The production capacity of the factory where the fire broke out has risen to nearly 40%. I know how to deal with it, so I would like to raise it further next month."
