The Federal Ministry of Health warns against sharing photos of vaccination passports on social networks after a corona vaccination.

It is generally advisable to publish as little personal data as possible on the Internet.

"This also applies to the data from the personal vaccination certificate," the ministry told WELT AM SONNTAG.

Sensitive data such as name, vaccination date and the batch number of the vaccine can be identified.

They can be misused - for example to report false vaccine side effects to the responsible Paul Ehrlich Institute (PEI).

When asked by the newspaper, a spokeswoman for the PEI admitted that “such a batch description can of course also generate false reports of suspected cases”.

Anyone who knows a batch number and the associated vaccination date can submit a plausible message via the Internet portal “Nebenhaben.bund.de” or the “SafeVac-App” of the PEI.

Users do not have to leave a name or contact information for this.

The Hamburg data protection officer Johannes Caspar also sees risks for the vaccination certificate holder themselves. The prioritization of vaccinations allows conclusions to be drawn about serious pre-existing illnesses, especially in young people.

The operators of social networks usually evaluated the recognizable characteristics of a person in order to draw advertising-relevant conclusions and sell them.
