"A diplomacy sacrificed for the benefit of the operations of the Guardians of the Revolution".
This is in substance what Mohammad Zarif denounces in an interview with an Iranian journalist, the content of which has just been disclosed by the Iran international channel and the
New York Times
.
The head of Iranian diplomacy mainly accuses
General Soleimani
, the commander of the elite Iranian forces, assassinated in January 2020 by the Americans, of having systematically hampered his policy.
In 2015, after the historic signing of the nuclear deal, Soleimani reportedly went to Moscow with the aim of destroying the deal, as Russia had no interest in Iran reconnecting with the West.
Several sources report this visit, then denied by the Kremlin.
The Revolutionary Guards would also have facilitated the sending of Russian weapons to Syria, to support the regime.
Much would have been done behind Mohammad Zarif's back.
It is not known who leaked this recording which was apparently not intended for release today.
But this comes in the midst of the resumption of
nuclear negotiations
for a return of the Americans to the agreement, while the main Iranian nuclear negotiator
Abbas Araghchi
reports progress in the negotiations.
We are also less than two months away from the presidential election in Iran.
