25.5 thousand patents registered with the Ministry of Economy

The Ministry of Economy announced that the number of patents registered with it reached 25,598 patents by the end of 2020, while the number of patent registration applications it received during the past year reached 1971.

On the occasion of the World Intellectual Property Day that falls on April 26 of each year, the Ministry of Economy stated that it continues its efforts to confront counterfeit goods and goods, as the Ministry of Trade Supervision Department carried out 463 inspection rounds and issued 98 violations during the first quarter of this year.

The Ministry indicated that the Commercial Control Department continues its efforts in carrying out inspection rounds and quickly responding to the complaints of owners of intellectual property rights to control counterfeit and falsified goods in the local markets in a manner that protects the rights of creators and innovators and maintains sustainable economic growth.

She said that the number of registered trademarks has reached 269,189 registered trademarks, during the period from 1992 until April 21.

The Ministry affirmed that intellectual property plays an important role as a policy in order to create and provide an environment conducive to innovation with the aim of establishing a framework that can exchange and share new technologies throughout the world in light of the Ministry's work in partnership with the concerned authorities within the state to develop laws and legislation regulating the intellectual property sector in its various activities and fields. The 1996 Paris Agreement and the TRIPS Agreement included aspects related to intellectual property rights 1996 in addition to the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works in 2004, the Rome Agreement for the Protection of Performers and Broadcasting Organizations in 2004, the WIPO Copyright Agreement "WCT" in 2004 and the WIPO Agreement on Performances. And "WPPT" audio recording in 2005.

Intellectual property rights agreements included the Beijing Treaty on Audiovisual Performances in 2014 and the Marrakesh Treaty to Facilitate Access to Published Works for Persons Who Are Blind, Visually Impaired, or Otherwise Print Disabled in 2014.
