The performance of my country's oil and gas industry is outstanding-the "dual carbon" target promotes the industry to accelerate its transformation

In 2020, the global oil and gas industry is in a trough, but the performance of my country's oil and gas industry is "outstanding": the total annual oil consumption reached 702 million tons, the refining capacity increased to 870 million tons/year, the diversification of business entities further developed, and the natural gas consumption increased year-on-year 7.1%.

Industry insiders said that the oil and gas industry is developing well, thanks to my country's effective control of the new crown pneumonia epidemic and the first to resume positive economic growth.

At the same time, the determination of carbon peak and carbon neutral targets has further promoted the accelerated transformation of the oil and gas industry.

From a global perspective, under the dual pressures of the epidemic and the economic downturn last year, primary energy consumption fell by 4.5% year-on-year, energy-related investment fell by nearly 20%, and newly discovered oil and gas reserves fell by 30% year-on-year. Investors are more concerned about the development of upstream projects. careful.

"Under the same background, China's oil and gas exploration and development has gone the opposite way to that of foreign countries." Wang Hong, a senior technical expert at the China Petroleum Institute of Economics and Technology, said that domestic oil and gas production companies have adjusted their investment strategies to effectively control costs, and oil and gas production and reserves have both increased. .

In the whole year, the newly-added proven geological reserves of oil and natural gas reached 1.32 billion tons and 1.29 trillion cubic meters respectively; the output of oil and gas reached 195 million tons and 188.9 billion cubic meters, respectively, an increase of 1.6% and 8.9% year-on-year.

The China Petroleum Institute of Economics and Technology recently released the "Domestic and International Oil and Gas Industry Development Report", which believes that with the world’s major economies carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals clarified, it will deeply trigger structural changes on both sides of oil and gas supply and demand. The industry is accelerating its transformation and upgrading.

International oil companies have taken action one after another, some have chosen to transform to international energy companies to build a low-carbon asset portfolio; some have chosen to achieve sustainable development with traditional oil and gas business + "negative" carbon technology.

"China has made a solemn declaration to the world of'striving to achieve carbon peaks by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060', which has injected strong impetus into the global response to climate change and a green recovery." China National Petroleum Corporation Zhang Hualin, assistant general manager of the company, said.

In 2020, my country will promote energy transformation around the "dual carbon" goal, unswervingly promote the opening of mining rights, refined oil exports and other links, and steadily promote the construction of energy legal systems.

Take natural gas as an example. In 2020, global natural gas consumption will fall by 3% year-on-year, while China's natural gas consumption will increase by 7.1% against the trend, with an increase of 21.7 billion cubic meters, which is much faster than other major natural gas consumers.

In addition to natural gas, my country's energy industry is also constantly seeking new breakthroughs.

In recent years, the development of hydrogen energy and fuel cells has been regarded by industry experts as an important choice for oil companies in their low-carbon transformation.

“Hydrogen energy is naturally closely related to the oil and gas industry chain and has attracted the attention of major international oil companies.” said Yang Yan, a senior technical expert at the China Petroleum Institute of Economics and Technology. Renewable energy develops better.

However, the penetration of new energy into the existing energy system usually takes a long time, and the large-scale application of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles is facing greater difficulties than the initial industrialization of electric vehicles.

Yang Yan suggested that my country's hydrogen energy development should do a good job of top-level design, accelerate breakthroughs in key core technologies of hydrogen energy and fuel cells, continue to improve relevant policies, standards and regulations, and break development barriers.

Experts predict that as the global oil and gas industry enters a stage of recovery, the development of my country's oil and gas industry will also usher in new opportunities and enter a new period of accelerated change and comprehensive promotion of high-quality development.
