At the meeting, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Commerce Gao Feng introduced that from January to February, my country's service exports were 335.35 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 21.9%; imports were 378.63 billion yuan, a decrease of 18.6%.

Service exports increased by 40.5 percentage points higher than imports, driving the service trade deficit to drop by 77.2% to 43.28 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 146.88 billion yuan.

  Gao Feng pointed out that in the first two months of this year, the total value of my country's service trade imports and exports was 713.98 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 3.6%. Service exports performed significantly better than imports, the trade deficit decreased, and the proportion of knowledge-intensive service trade increased.

Compared with the same period in 2019, the import and export of services fell by 14.7%, of which exports increased by 14.7% and imports fell by 30.5%.

Calculated in US dollars, the import and export of services in the first two months of this year was US$110.35 billion, an increase of 3.7% over the same period in 2020.

Among them, exports were US$51.83 billion, an increase of 31.1%; imports were US$58.52 billion, a decrease of 12.5%.

  First, service exports increased by more than 20% year-on-year.

From January to February this year, my country’s knowledge-intensive service trade exports amounted to 324.16 billion yuan, an increase of 17.2%, accounting for 45.4% of total service imports and exports, an increase of 12.7 percentage points.

Among them, the export of knowledge-intensive services was 182.61 billion yuan, an increase of 14.7%, accounting for 54.5% of the total service exports; the areas with faster growth in exports were financial services, insurance services, telecommunications, computers, and information services, with a year-on-year increase of 48.4%. 39.6% and 30.2%.

Imports of knowledge-intensive services amounted to 141.54 billion yuan, an increase of 20.6%, accounting for 37.4% of total service imports; the areas where imports grew faster were financial services, telecommunications, computers, and information services, which increased by 57.3% and 32.2% year-on-year respectively.

  Third, the import and export of travel services dropped sharply. The impact of the new crown pneumonia epidemic on the import and export of travel services continues. In the first two months of this year, my country's import and export of travel services was 128.09 billion yuan, a decrease of 50%, of which exports fell by 54.1% and imports fell by 49.6%, which were the main factors leading to the overall decline in service imports and exports this year. Excluding travel services, my country's service imports and exports increased by 21.1% from January to February this year, of which exports increased by 29.1% and imports increased by 12.4%.
