The number of courier services handled by Yamato Transport in the last year increased by 16% from the previous year to the highest ever.

Due to the increase in the use of online shopping due to refraining from going out due to the spread of the new coronavirus infection, other major home delivery companies are also moving at a faster pace than the previous year.

According to Yamato Transport, the number of courier services handled in the last year was more than 2,096,990,000, an increase of 16.5% from the previous year.

According to the company, it is the largest number since the service started in 1976, and it is said that the reason is that the number of people who use online shopping has increased due to refraining from going out due to the spread of the new coronavirus infection.

Among the major courier companies, Japan Post has also increased by 13.1% from the previous year to more than 1 billion in the 11 months until February this year, the fastest pace since privatization in 2007.

SG Holdings, which owns Sagawa Express, also has 6% more luggage for the nine months until December last year than the previous year.

As the handling of luggage increases, in addition to reducing the burden on drivers, each company is accelerating the spread of delivery lockers that can receive luggage at stations and convenience stores instead of face-to-face in order to prevent infection.
