The Government is considering correcting its economic forecasts in view of the bad start of 2021, characterized by a series of setbacks, including the snowstorm last January, delays in the arrival of vaccines and, also, the bad data on the recovery of employment, as advanced this morning by the Vice President of Economic Affairs,

Nadia Calviño

.

"We left behind a hard quarter, a hard third wave, also Filomena.

And it has not been a positive month.

But the month of March has gone from less to more in terms of affiliations and exits of workers in

ERTE

and that is the a line that we have to follow in order to have a transitional second quarter and see the recovery more clearly, "he said in an interview this morning at RNE.

Calviño is scheduled to meet today with the

International Monetary Fund (IMF)

, which will update its forecasts on the Spanish economy.

This update could mark differences with those made by the Government in terms of the speed at which Spain recovers.

The vice president explained that the latest government forecasts are from last October and that the different events that have occurred since then, mainly the impact of the third wave of Covid-19 infections,

may correct the forecasts "rather downward" .

His opinion is that all this type of official projections on economic recovery should include the evolution of the pandemic, in which positive news is already taking place in the most advanced countries in vaccination, and the stimulus programs that are being approved in some countries. .

Calviño considers that the responsibilities of her new position in the Government as second vice president and that of the person in charge of Labor,

Yolanda Díaz

, do not vary too much with respect to the situation prior to the departure of Pablo Iglesias from the Executive.

The economic manager has taken care to underline that it is she who "coordinates" all the ministers in the area, as well as who is the one who "channels" their activity, including the agreements of the Ministry of Labor with the social agents so that they are

balanced agreements

so that were in a positive line of promoting job creation ".

Calviño's opinion regarding the hierarchy in the Council of Ministers is relevant since his clashes with Díaz have been frontal and public regarding issues such as

the Minimum Interprofessional Salary (SMI) or the content of the labor reforms

that must be negotiated with employers and unions.

However, in her new role in the coalition government, Díaz is more than a minister coordinated by Calviño.

She is also vice president and leader of the representatives of United We Can in the Executive.

With an intense public presence until his clashes with Calviño last December, he

has reduced his previous combativeness to a minimum.

The vice president of Economic Affairs enters with greater security to deal with the labor issues that her portfolio covers but that are specific to Díaz.

Thus, the dismantling of the labor reform promised by Podemos and assumed as a banner by Díaz herself is not so much according to Calviño, who has assured that the reforms "are already agreed within the Government", although they must be discussed with the social agents .

"We must flee from the idea that we are going to solve the problems by changing a paragraph of the Workers' Statute," he indicated, after admitting that he does not oppose what part of the agenda of issues that Díaz has proposed, such as the repeal of the prevalence of company collective agreements over collective agreements, enters into the planned reforms.
