As an important measure to promote the deep integration of artificial intelligence and the real economy, the construction of a pilot area for artificial intelligence innovation applications can drive regional industrial development with the help of applications.

Just in February, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued a notice to support the creation of Beijing, Tianjin (Binhai New Area), Hangzhou, Guangzhou, and Chengdu National Artificial Intelligence Innovation Application Pilot Zones (hereinafter referred to as "Pilot Zones").

This is the second list of pilot zones released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology after the three pilot zones in Shanghai (Pudong New Area), Shenzhen, and Jinan-Qingdao.

So far, the number of national artificial intelligence pilot areas has increased to 8, covering the four major regions of the Yangtze River Delta, Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macao, and Chengdu.

What are the differences between the eight pilot zones in terms of industrial scale, number of enterprises, university resources, and talent advantages?

CCID Consulting’s "One Picture Understanding: Development Characteristics of the National Artificial Intelligence Innovation Application Pilot Zone" (hereinafter referred to as the "Report") released by CCID Consulting recently shows that in terms of the scale of the artificial intelligence industry, Beijing and Shenzhen Larger scales, both accounting for about 20% of the country; Shanghai and Hangzhou are in the second echelon; the industrial scale of the 8 pilot areas has accounted for 80.9% of the country.

At the same time, the number of companies is also positively correlated with the scale of the artificial intelligence industry-8 pilot regions have 83.2% of the country's companies.

Among them, Beijing and Shenzhen have the highest proportion of artificial intelligence companies, while Shanghai and Hangzhou have higher enthusiasm for innovation and entrepreneurship.

However, in terms of the number of colleges and universities offering artificial intelligence majors, the gap between pilot cities and non-pilot cities is small.

Among them, there are relatively few universities in Shenzhen offering artificial intelligence majors.

In terms of artificial intelligence talents, Beijing leads the country, with more than half of outstanding talents; Hangzhou ranks second.

The above-mentioned data is also consistent with the "China's New Generation Artificial Intelligence Development Report 2020" (hereinafter referred to as "AI Report") released in October last year.

The AI report shows that China's regional development of artificial intelligence and national regional strategies are highly coordinated and mutually promoted, and the convergence of regional factors accelerates the leadership of the artificial intelligence industry.

The Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, Yangtze River Delta and Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area have become the three major regional engines for the development of artificial intelligence in my country. The total number of artificial intelligence companies accounted for 83% of the country. The Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration and the Yangtze River mid-stream urban agglomeration also showed the development of artificial intelligence. The regional vitality of the industrial agglomeration area is beginning to show regional leadership and synergy.

"Report" author and senior analyst of CCID Consulting’s Artificial Intelligence Industry Research Center, Yu Kaidi, analyzed to CBN reporters that, overall, the development level of artificial intelligence in the cities belonging to the two batches of pilot areas is at the forefront of the country, and the pilot areas will be constructed in the future. The direction is to implement the common development requirements for building artificial intelligence application scenarios in specific industries.

Among the first batch of cities, Shanghai's financial market is open and flexible, the investment environment is excellent, and the atmosphere for science and technology innovation is strong; Shenzhen has a strong electronic information foundation and strong new basic research capabilities for AI applications; Jinan-Qingdao has a good industrial foundation. Rich big data resources and application scenarios.

In addition to the artificial intelligence innovation application pilot area of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Science and Technology is also promoting the construction of artificial intelligence innovation and development test areas. The goal is to establish a layout of about 20 test areas by 2023 to create a group of artificial intelligence innovations with major leading and leading roles. High ground.

Recently, the Ministry of Science and Technology issued a document to support Changsha and Suzhou to build national new-generation artificial intelligence innovation and development pilot zones.

Yu Kaidi told reporters that although the 8 pilot areas of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology are dominated by eastern cities, some cities in the central and western regions also have their own advantages.

For example, in the National New Generation Artificial Intelligence Innovation Development Pilot Zone of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the cities in the central and western regions include Chongqing, Chengdu, Wuhan, and Changsha.

In the process of coordinated advancement of the construction of the pilot zone and the experimental zone, Chongqing, Wuhan, and Changsha are expected to have both "integrated application" and "technical breakthrough" two-way force points to achieve the integrated development of the artificial intelligence industry in the region.
