A new organization will be established to advance the research and development of next-generation semiconductors, which are indispensable for the progress of digitalization.

In addition to domestic research institutes and semiconductor device manufacturers, we aim to build a wide range of development systems in cooperation with major overseas companies such as TSMC in Taiwan and Intel in the United States.

Improving the performance of semiconductors is the key to the progress of digitalization, but Japan is lagging behind overseas with the technology called "miniaturization" that enhances the performance by narrowing the semiconductor circuit.

Under these circumstances, the national research institute, National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology, has decided to establish a new organization to promote research and development of next-generation semiconductors.

In addition to major semiconductor device manufacturers such as Tokyo Electron and Canon, TSMC, the world's largest semiconductor manufacturer in Taiwan, and Intel, the world's largest semiconductor manufacturer, will also cooperate.

The new organization will utilize the knowledge of semiconductors possessed by overseas manufacturers to conduct research and development on next-generation semiconductors and manufacturing equipment that have been further miniaturized.

As competition in each country intensifies for next-generation semiconductors, we will seek the participation of universities and other organizations in the future, aiming to build a wide range of development systems.
