The backward chemical production capacity within one kilometer along the Yangtze River has been basically eliminated--the main stream of the Yangtze River reaches Class II water body for the first time

Beijing, March 30th (Reporter Cao Hongyan) "The renovation of the chemical park is an important task in the battle for the protection and restoration of the Yangtze River. The Ministry of Ecology and Environment actively cooperates with relevant departments to carry out the renovation of the chemical park. Currently, the outdated chemical production capacity within one kilometer along the Yangtze River has been Basically eliminated." At the regular press conference held by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment on the 30th, Zhang Bo, Chief Engineer of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment and Director of the Department of Water Ecology and Environment, introduced.

Zhang Bo said that there are many chemical companies in the Yangtze River Economic Zone, and the renovation of the chemical park is an important task in the battle for the protection and restoration of the Yangtze River.

At the same time, the existing chemical companies along the Yangtze River will be promoted to implement "relocation, reform, and closure". By the end of last year, 79% of the companies listed in the "relocation, reform and closure" plan have completed their remediation tasks. Among them, the production capacity of lagging chemicals within one kilometer along the river has been completed. Has been basically eliminated.

The Ministry of Ecology and Environment also guided 7 provinces to issue chemical park certification management measures to further standardize the development and construction of chemical parks.

In addition, Zhang Bo reported that as of the end of 2020, the elimination rate of 2,914 black and odorous water bodies in cities at prefecture-level and above reached 98.2%.

Inferior Class V state-controlled sections of rivers in the Yangtze River Basin and the Bohai Rim River entering the sea have basically been eliminated.
