In connection with the alleged illegal dumping by public officials, including the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) incident, the government has decided to seek severe punishment for real estate speculators nationwide.
Shortly after the anti-corruption policy meeting held by President Moon Jae-in on the 29th, Prime Minister Jeong Sye-gyun held a briefing on the results at the Seoul Government Complex and announced prevention, detection, punishment, and return measures to eradicate illegal real estate speculation.
First of all, Prime Minister Chung said, "We will thoroughly detect illegal activities that have occurred through the establishment of an all-out government response system, and we will thoroughly hunt down real estate speculators nationwide."
To this end, the government decided to double the size of the government's joint special investigative headquarters to over 1,500 people, and set up a'real estate speculation investigative team' in 43 prosecutors' offices to inject more than 500 prosecutors and investigators.
It is expanding the number of investigators to more than 2,000 to find real estate speculators.
Separately, we decided to set up a speculation reporting center and run a 100-day intensive reporting period right away.
The amount of compensation for reporting is expanded from the current maximum of 10 million won to a maximum of 1 billion won, but incentives are also prepared, such as excluding aggravated punishment for voluntary reports.
Prime Minister Chung emphasized that "the unfair profits obtained from real estate speculation by public officials will be redeemed up to five times, and the farmland for speculation will be forcibly disposed."
In addition, in cooperation with the National Assembly, we decided to significantly strengthen related systems, such as quickly enacting the Conflict of Interest Prevention Act.
Prime Minister Chung said, "It is an unacceptable betrayal for public officials and employees of public institutions to pursue private interests using inside information. The government will completely eradicate corruption in real estate through bone-sharpening reflection."
