The "health passport" of the European Union will be available towards "mid-June" in physical or digital version, announced this Sunday the European Commissioner for the Internal Market, Frenchman Thierry Breton.
In an interview with the radio station RTL, Breton gave a more concrete schedule and more specific details of what has been advanced so far by the European Commission (EC).
Breton explained that the document, in addition to a QR code, which will include the person's name and date of birth, as well as the passport number, if they have been vaccinated and with what type of vaccine, if they have had covid and whether or not it is a carrier of antibodies. For those who have not been vaccinated or suffered from the disease "a PCR test will be requested, in which the status" of the test will be found, he stressed.
He added that the document will not be mandatory, but it may be required when traveling by plane, participating in events or entering public places. France, with its president Emmanuel Macron at the helm, insisted that this European health certificate should not depend only on vaccination, because it would be discriminatory for those who have not been able to be immunized.
The EC, the executive body of the EU, announced on the 17th the project for a digital certificate that allows EU citizens to travel, with the initial objective that it should be ready before summer, possibly in June.
