The Ministry of Commerce responds to H&M’s boycott of Xinjiang cotton: it hopes to correct wrong practices to avoid politicization of commercial issues

In response to the statement issued by H&M and other multinational companies to boycott Xinjiang cotton, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Commerce Gao Feng responded at a regular press conference on March 25 that the so-called "forced labor" in Xinjiang, China, is completely fictitious and pure and flawless. Xinjiang cotton does not allow any forces to discredit and tarnish.

We oppose any external forces interfering in Xinjiang affairs and China’s internal affairs, and oppose sanctions against relevant Chinese entities and individuals based on lies and false information under the pretext of the so-called Xinjiang human rights issues.

The Chinese government has always welcomed and supported the normal business activities of multinational companies in China and their efforts to build an industrial chain and supply chain.

Chinese consumers have responded to the so-called business decisions made by individual companies based on false information.

It is hoped that relevant companies will respect the laws of the market, correct wrong practices, and avoid the politicization of commercial issues.

At the same time, we welcome foreign companies to visit Xinjiang on site, and we are also willing to provide active support for companies from all over the world to carry out trade and investment in Xinjiang.
