In the next five years, six modernized banknotes will be developed and put into circulation in Russia.

This is stated in the document "Main directions of development of cash circulation for 2021-2025", which was adopted by the Board of Directors of the Bank of Russia.

It is noted that the new banknotes will be distinguished by an improved security complex and modern design.

“The design and basic security complex of the 1997 banknotes were developed almost 30 years ago.

In 2001-2010, the Bank of Russia issued twelve modifications of these banknotes.

However, over the past 10 years, the security complex of paper banknotes has not been improved, and the time has come to continue modifying it, while simultaneously making the design of banknotes more modern, ”said Mikhail Alekseev, Deputy Chairman of the Bank of Russia.

According to the Central Bank's calculations, in 2022, updated banknotes with a denomination of 100 rubles will go into circulation, in 2023 - 1000 and 5000 rubles, in 2024 - 500 rubles, and in 2025 - 10 and 50 rubles.

At the same time, it is indicated that the 50-ruble note will retain the image of the sculpture at the base of the Rostral Column against the background of the Peter and Paul Fortress, and the 100-ruble note will retain the quadriga on the portico of the Bolshoi Theater building.

At the same time, the reverse side will be supplemented, which will depict the sights of the Northwestern and Central Federal Districts.

As the Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank noted during a press conference, the design of the 100-ruble banknote has already been developed and approved by the Board of Directors of the Bank of Russia.

The obverse will feature Red Square, the Zaryadye Center, the Shukhov Tower, the Moscow State University building on Vorobyovy Gory and a number of other symbols of Moscow.

“Our colleagues and colleagues from Goznak have started to develop appropriate security features, to refine the design.

The latest date when everyone can see what, for example, a new 100-ruble bill is like, is 2022.

We expect that in the first half of 2022 it will already be possible to present the new edition to the attention of the general public, ”he said.

At the same time, images of Novosibirsk, Pyatigorsk, Nizhny Novgorod and Yekaterinburg, respectively, will be applied to the front side of banknotes in denominations of 10, 500, 1000 and 5000 rubles.

The sights of the Siberian, North Caucasian, Volga and Ural federal districts will appear on their reverse side.

“As a result of the modernization of the banknote range, all federal districts of our country will be equally represented on banknotes according to the principle: one denomination of a banknote, one federal district and a city located in it,” Alekseev emphasized.

According to him, both new and old banknotes will be in circulation.

“We do not deliberately confiscate any banknotes if they are valid.

And in this regard, we will adhere to the same policy in the future.

Such a policy closes all ideas, all possibilities for carrying out any monetary reforms.

They were not planned, not planned and will not be planned and implemented, ”the deputy head of the Central Bank explained.

Recall that in October 2017, for the first time in eight years, new banknotes in denominations of 200 rubles and 2,000 rubles were issued in Russia.

The 200-ruble note presents the architectural sights of Crimea - the monument to the Scuttled Ships in Sevastopol and the Tauric Chersonesos.

At the same time, a banknote with a face value of 2,000 rubles received an image of the Vostochny cosmodrome and a bridge on Russky Island in Vladivostok.

The week before last, the head of the Central Bank Elvira Nabiullina announced that the regulator was not considering the possibility of issuing a 50-ruble coin or a 10-thousand-ruble banknote.

“For credit institutions, this is fraught with additional costs for setting up equipment.

It seems to us that these costs exceed the potential, and even then dubious benefits, "she said in an interview with Izvestia.

"An absolutely natural process"

Vladimir Gutenev, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Economic Policy and Industry, Innovative Development and Entrepreneurship, noted that the share of paper money in circulation is still significant, despite the fact that more and more currency transactions are being carried out in digital format.

“It cannot be said that old banknotes do not meet the security requirements that are imposed on money today.

The Central Bank conducts an absolutely natural process of updating banknotes, "said the interlocutor of RT.

At the same time, the mayor of Nizhny Novgorod, Yuri Shalabayev, commenting on the fact that the city got into new 1000-ruble bills, spoke about several local attractions that could appear on banknotes.

“The city has 800 years of history and many iconic places that could be placed on the most frequently used banknote: this is, of course, the Kremlin, the Nizhny Novgorod fair, the Chkalovskaya staircase, from the modern recognizable symbols - the stadium on Strelka,” the portal quoted the mayor as saying "Gazeta.Ru".
