A fire at Renesas Electronics, a major semiconductor manufacturer, has caused a series of production cuts due to a shortage of semiconductors, and major automobile manufacturers are rushing to confirm how much the impact of this fire will affect production in the future.

At the Renesas Electronics factory in Hitachinaka City, Ibaraki Prefecture, a fire broke out on some equipment such as manufacturing equipment on the 19th of this month, and production of semiconductors for automobiles was partially suspended.

Renesas has a policy of aiming to restart within one month, and automobile manufacturers with which we do business dispatch employees to the site to support recovery.

On the other hand, companies such as Toyota Motor, Nissan Motor, and Honda that used Renesas semiconductors are rushing to confirm how much the impact of this fire will affect production.

In the automobile industry, the production of cars has been reduced one after another due to a shortage of semiconductors, but the inventory of semiconductors on hand is lower than usual, and semiconductor manufacturers other than Renesas have limited capacity to increase production.

In addition, the Renesas factory had some semiconductors in the process of being manufactured, but it can only be supplied for about one month.

Some people familiar with market trends have said that the fire will inevitably lead to additional "production cuts" by automakers, and there are concerns about the impact.
