Fines for highway toll fraud have increased since Thursday,

Le Parisien

reports

.

A decree published the day before in the Official Journal indicates that the offense, consisting for example of sticking a car very closely to prevent the barrier from falling back in front of his vehicle, will now be punished with a category 4 fine. a category 2 fine, as was previously the case.

The difference is size.

This means that you will have to pay 375 euros instead of 45: that's eight times more than before.

And this fine is added to the price of the toll.

Inflation does not stop with the fine.

“Transactional compensation”, or “application fees”, also saw its amount increase, from 20 to 90 euros.

According to a motorway, this increase is justified, because it corresponds much better than before to the “real cost of the expenses spent to seek the fraudsters”.

Barrier-free tolls

This change in the pricing of the fine is intended to facilitate the implementation of barrier-free tolls, explains the Paris daily.

Provided for in the orientation law of December 2019, they will make it possible to eliminate traffic jams at tolls and limit greenhouse gas emissions.

But two cases are provided for the payment of fines.

Pushing a barrier will cost more.

Beyond two months to pay the fine, the defrauding motorist will pay 90 euros in administrative fees and 375 euros.

In the case of a barrier-free toll, the administrative fees will drop to 10 euros for two weeks.

Beyond that, they will be 90 euros.

To prevent it from reaching 375 euros, the fine must be paid within 45 days.

Those who have not paid the five tickets of 375 euros received in twelve months will see the fine increase to 7,500 euros.
