Carrefour was fined 425,000 euros for violating the regulations governing promotions on food products, the Fraud Repression (DGCCRF) announced on Thursday.
A breach was found by the Regional Directorate for Enterprises, Competition, Consumption, Labor and Employment (Dirrecte) as part of an investigation into compliance with the rules on promotions, launched by the DGCCRF .
Appeal to the administrative court
Normally, promotions on foodstuffs are capped in value, at 34% of the selling price to the consumer, by virtue of an ordinance of the Food Law, adopted at the end of 2018. The Hauts-de-France Dirrecte pronounced the sanction “ against the company Carrefour Hypermarkets for promotional advantages granted to consumers greater than 34% of the sale price, ”indicates a press release from the DGCCRF.
Contacted by AFP, the Carrefour group said it would appeal to the administrative court.
