Elon Musk said on Saturday that Tesla had blocked access to the beta version of its autonomous driving software to some users.

The sanction was taken "when the drivers were not sufficiently attentive", specified the billionaire in a tweet.

The test version of the “Full self-driving” program (FSD) is available to around 2,000 users, the CEO added.

The number of Tesla owners whose permissions have been revoked, however, was not disclosed, CNN notes.

The software launched in October 2020 is among the autopilot devices deemed of concern by the US National Highway Safety Bureau (NTSB).

In a letter sent last February to the administration in charge of highways, the organization expressed concern about the use of this software on public roads.

Availability varies by region due to regulatory approval delays and / or Tesla internal development & testing.

Note: word “Beta” is used to reduce complacency in usage & set expectations appropriately.

All software is first tested internally by Tesla simulation & QA drive teams.

"A limited obligation of supervision"

He called for tighter restrictions in place, reported CNBC, which obtained the mail.

Elon Musk's company is cited 16 times.

"By making the system available, Tesla is testing highly automated technology on roads open to the public with limited monitoring or data reporting requirements," said NTSB official Robert Sumwalt.

The latter, however, admitted that the American manufacturer had warned that the program did not make the vehicles autonomous and that it required the attention of the driver.

Elon Musk announced on March 6 on Twitter that version 8.2 of his FSD would be available to twice as many users as the previous one.

The manager intends to multiply by ten the number of drivers equipped with the release of version 8.3.
