The Hesperia hotel chain

has requested 55 million euros from the fund to support the solvency of strategic companies

managed by the Sociedad Estatal de Participaciones Industriales (SEPI) to face the crisis derived from the coronavirus pandemic, which has kept it practically paralyzed to the hotel sector in the last year, as sources familiar with the request have confirmed to Europa Press.

It is the second hotel chain that requests it,

after the request also from Room Mate

.

This fund, initially endowed with 10,000 million euros, aims to provide temporary public financial support to strengthen the business solvency of companies that are experiencing severe temporary difficulties as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic and that are considered strategic for the national or regional productive fabric.

Hesperia affirms that with this instrument, as it did before with other mechanisms such as loans with ICO guarantees, they intend to "reinforce the company's liquidity" and make it clear that it is a "very solvent" company.

"

Grupo Hesperia analyzes various alternatives in order to further strengthen its financial position

and keep the company in an optimal situation at the time of the recovery of the tourism market," the chain explains in a statement.

In this context, it indicates that it has processed a request for information from SEPI to "assess the available financial conditions."

"If Hesperia decided to go ahead with this line of financing, it would be used to reinforce its liquidity in the current situation of pandemic," explains the hotel group.

Situation

Grupo Inversor Hesperia (GIHSA) is one of the main Spanish hotel groups with a prominent presence in urban and holiday destinations.

The company currently has 28 hotels in Spain, all of them with 3, 4 and 5 stars, with about 4,500 rooms located in resort and urban centers, and in which about 1,800 professionals provide service.

GIHSA recorded sales of over 137 million euros in 2019 and obtained a consolidated net result of 15.5 million, a figure in line with that of 2018 if the positive impact generated in that year by the sale of its stake in the 8.13% in NH Hotels.

The group expanded and improved its financing in 2020, both through available ICO lines and with subsequent maturities of existing credit lines.

The hotel group thus joins other tourism companies that have requested financing from SEPI.

Last November, Air Europa received a 'green light' for the requested aid of 475 million

.

The Executive also approved last week the aid of 53 million euros to the airline Plus Ultra, considering it a company of strategic interest for the country.

Other companies in the sector have also requested help from the solvency fund, such as Avoris (the result of the merger of the Globalia and Barceló travel agencies), Wamos (owner of the Nautalia or Pullmantur group and property of the Springwater fund), the hotel company Hotusa, the Catalan Serhs, Hotelatelier (owner of Petit Palace and Icon hotels), Room Mate Hotels or the Juliá transport company.

All of them would add some requests for aid close to 1,400 million euros.
