Russia says it has made agreements for the production of its corona vaccine Sputnik V in Germany and other European countries.

The head of the state direct investment fund RDIF, Kirill Dmitrijew, said on Monday, according to the Interfax agency in Moscow, but without naming the companies.

There were also agreements with companies in France, Italy and Spain.

The aim is to ensure the start of deliveries of the Russian vaccine to European countries if it has been approved in Europe.

Testing is still ongoing at the European Medicines Agency (EMA).

The first results of scientific and clinical tests are currently being analyzed before all the data required for approval are available.

With the corona vaccines from Biontech / Pfizer, Moderna and Astrazeneca previously approved by the EMA, the process took between several weeks and three months.

This should enable deliveries to countries that use Sputnik V even without EU approval.

Russia approved its corona vaccine in the summer of last year - even before the clinical trials were completed.

This had sparked international skepticism about the effectiveness of the vaccine.

According to a study published in the prestigious journal "The Lancet", Sputnik V has an effectiveness of 91.6 percent against corona infections with symptoms.
