<Anchor> It is a

friendly economic time.

Today (15th) I will also be with reporter Kim Hye-min.

Reporter Kim, last weekend the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family said the results of the survey came out, but the results showed that more young people said they would not marry.

<Reporter> We

surveyed about 6,000 young people between the ages of 19 and 34.

More than half of the young people who said they may or may not be married.

52% were men and 57% were women.

There were quite a lot of answers saying that they would not marry at all. Men were 11%, and women were about 24%, more than twice as many.

Why would you hesitate or refuse to marry like this?

43% of respondents said that men are responsible for the cost of their family's livelihood and marriage.

On the other hand, relatively many respondents that women do not have to do it, and that they feel burdened by traditional family culture and family relationships.

There were quite a few young people who wanted to live a free life that was not bound by relationships.

The pressure on my home arrangement due to the skyrocketing apartment prices, the relative deprivation I felt in the LH incident, and the burden on my in-laws were the reasons that made me reluctant to marry.

There are many negative perceptions about marriage in general, but there are more women, especially.

When it comes to childbirth, I think women are a little more negative. What was it like in practice?

<Reporter>

Women also had a higher rate of not giving birth.

One in three men still wanted to have children, but one in five women.

In addition, more than 40% of women said they did not intend to give birth at all.

The decline in the fertility rate is also evident in the'total fertility rate'.

It refers to the average number of births a woman is expected to give birth to in her lifetime. Last year, Korea was 0.84.

It is the only OECD member country to record 0 people.

One woman must have two children to maintain the population, which is much lower than this.

It also means that after a generation, the number of births will be cut in half.

Compared to other countries, it is even more clear. The total fertility rate in France is 1.84 and the US is 1.73.

There are also 1.42 people in nearby Japan.

But there must be a reason why young people do not have children like this.

What is the reason?

<Reporter> You

need to know clearly why young people do not want to have children so that it will be reflected in the policy.

Men ranked first, and women second, citing the cost of raising children and education.

The notable part was that they were not confident of being good parents, and the responses that the child's future would not be happy were quite high, and both women and men accounted for about 30%.

More than 10% of respondents said they do not want to live tied to their children.

In particular, 14% of women answered that they were worried about raising addiction and were disturbed at work, about twice as many as men.

It is giving the message that the government should come up with a fundamental solution rather than giving a small subsidies for having a child.

<Anchor> Since

I am more worried about the future of my child, the result of not having a child comes a little heavy.

In addition, the lives of young people have changed a lot because of Corona 19.

<Reporter>

There were quite a few responses that both men and women

said

it became difficult to find a job, but more than half.

Also, housework and care time increased for both men and women, but more women.

I asked if I had felt suicidal thoughts at least once in the past year, and more than one in three women answered yes.

19.4% of men said they wanted to make extreme choices.

When it comes to feelings of depression, helplessness and hopelessness, 45.7% of women and 31.4% of men said they often feel it.

It makes no sense to compare which sex was more difficult among women and men due to Corona 19.

We must build a consensus that young Koreans are feeling deeper than ever, feeling of depression and isolation, and that they need social help.
