Emirates SkyCargo, the cargo arm of Emirates Airlines, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority to facilitate the transport of hazardous materials.

A statement issued yesterday stated that the Director of Government Shipping Business Development and Customer Services in Emirates Air Cargo, with the role of Al Mazmi, and the Executive Director of the Aviation Security and Accident Investigation Sector at Dubai Civil Aviation, Mohammed Abdullah Langawi, signed the memorandum in the presence of the Senior Vice President of Aviation. Emirates Shipping Department, Nabil Sultan.

Under the agreement, the two sides will work to enhance the mechanisms for exchanging information in advance on certain categories of hazardous materials that have been booked for transportation with Emirates Air Cargo via Dubai, as this contributes to enhancing the information available in the "Dangerous Materials Declaration" submitted to the Dubai Aviation Authority. Civilians are part of the transfer approval process for items classified as dangerous goods by the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

The MoU also aims to develop approval procedures for transporting hazardous materials more efficiently, and to reduce waiting times before the transfer process.

Sultan said, "We are pleased to strengthen cooperation with the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, in order to coordinate the exchange of information and best practices on the transport of dangerous materials."

He added, "Given that safety is one of the most important pillars of (Emirates Airlines) operations, we will work through this agreement in cooperation and coordination with the competent authorities, to ensure the efficiency of the transport of dangerous materials and that they meet all safety requirements."

For his part, Langawi said, “The memorandum will contribute to linking the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority’s system with the (Emirates Air Cargo) system regarding the transport of dangerous materials by air, making it easier for dealers (air freight agents) to obtain no-objection certificates for the transport of dangerous materials with ease. He is pleased, ”indicating that“ the number of these certificates issued through the authority’s system increased during the period between 2018 and the end of 2020 to 260,90 certificates. ”

It is noteworthy that «Emirates SkyCargo» carries goods to more than 130 destinations across six continents on the Emirates Airlines fleet.
