The lull observed after the intervention of the army to reopen the roads at the beginning of the week did not last long.

A further surge in the dollar against the Lebanese pound on the black market this Saturday pushed thousands of Lebanese into the streets.

Across the country, angry protesters blocked roads with flaming tires and dumpsters.

The protest spread to the capital Beirut and the city of Saïda in the south of the country, where protesters closed main streets.

Same scene in the north of the country and in the eastern plain of the Bekaa.

In downtown Beirut, clashes erupted in the evening between the police and demonstrators who breached a fortification installed to protect Parliament.

In the Kesrouan region, 20 kilometers north of Beirut, dozens of black-clad protesters attacked a supermarket and looted food shelves.

This new wave of protests comes at a time of economic and financial crisis unprecedented in the history of Lebanon and of political deadlock which prevents the formation of a government.

The Lebanese, helpless, see their purchasing power collapse due to the depreciation of the national currency, which nothing seems to be able to slow down.
