Data issued by the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (Dubai Tourism) showed an increase in the average length of stay for tourists in the emirate to 5.3 hotel nights during January 2021.

Hotel facility managers identified three factors behind the increase in the average stay for tourists in Dubai, which are the decision to extend tourist visas for an additional month for free, hotel establishments offering promotions for long-term stays, as well as the "virtual work" program, which was launched in October 2020.

They assured «Emirates Today» that the rise in the average stay of guests is a positive sign of recovery, and that it has a major role in supporting hotel revenues and increasing spending levels in other sectors, such as transportation, shopping, food services, and others.

In detail, data issued by the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (Dubai Tourism) showed an increase in the average length of stay for tourists from the emirate to 5.3 hotel nights during last January, compared to 3.6 nights in the same period in 2020, with a significant growth rate of more than 47%.

According to statistics, the number of rooms booked during January 2021 “overnight stays” reached more than 2.65 million hotel nights, recorded by 452,000 visitors only, compared to 3.3 million nights recorded by 1.79 million visitors during January 2020.

The CEO of "Time Hotels Group", Muhammad Awadallah, considered that the increase in the average stay of one guest in hotel establishments operating in Dubai is a positive sign during the current circumstances, pointing out that this increase is due to a set of factors and marketing mechanisms that hotels have followed.

Awadallah explained that the decision to extend tourist visas for an additional month was reflected in this increase, in addition to the hotel establishments offering promotional offers for long-term stays, noting that travel conditions and mechanisms changed during the pandemic period, which was reflected in the length of stay.

He stressed that the hotel sector continues to work on initiatives to stimulate the sector regarding increasing occupancy from domestic tourism as well.

In turn, the general manager of "Al Jaddaf Rotana Hotel", Haitham Omar, said that the decision to extend tourist visas for an additional month for tourists for free, in addition to the offers of "long stay", as well as the "virtual work" program, which was launched during October 2020, all of them. "Indicators of hotel occupancy during last January were strong," he said, noting that some establishments recorded revenues that exceeded or approached pre-pandemic levels.

He pointed out that the precautionary measures taken by the hotel establishments operating in Dubai, in coordination with the Department of Tourism, including deep cleaning and continuous sterilization, and observance of the standards of spacing, contributed to increasing the reassurance of visitors, which prompted them to extend vacations and spend longer holidays in Dubai.

The default work program
