Prime Minister Jean Castex announced the closure of businesses of more than 10,000 m² in the 23 departments under enhanced surveillance due to Covid - with the exception of Pas-de-Calais where shops must close from 5,000 m².

Europe 1 takes stock of the businesses which still have the right to remain open, and those which must close.

Trade professionals feared a closure of shopping centers of more than 5,000 m², they are partly relieved.

Finally, only the Pas-de-Calais department will have to comply with this rule on Friday evening, Prime Minister Jean Castex announced during his press conference.

For the 22 other departments placed under reinforced surveillance by the government, it is the stores of more than 10,000m² which will have to close.

Europe 1 takes stock of the stores that will remain open.

No exception, except for food

Because these 5,000 m² of difference completely change the situation.

In Ile-de-France for example, 64 stores are affected by the measure announced Thursday evening.

These are Castorama, Boulanger, or Printemps-Nation brands.

If the government had opted for a closure on the model of the Alpes-Maritimes or Dunkirk, some 193 stores should have lowered their gates.

On the other hand, there will be no exception for so-called essential non-food businesses.

DIY stores, computer stores and garden centers must lower the curtain like the others.

This was not the case during the first confinement.

In concrete terms, therefore, only food stores have the right to remain open.

The thorny issue of aid

But the file is far from being closed, since it now remains to negotiate the aid that accompanies these new closures.

A file that is becoming more and more urgent, especially since the question has still not been decided for businesses of more than 20,000 m² which were forced to close ... a month ago.
