Airbus does not plan to layoffs in France, Germany and the United Kingdom, the countries most affected by the plan of 15,000 job cuts put in place to adapt to the crisis caused by Covid-19, said Thursday the aircraft manufacturer.

“Thanks to the effectiveness of all the social measures deployed so far, Airbus does not see the need for forced redundancies in France, Germany and the United Kingdom, pending the successful deployment of internal mobility measures in progress, ”says Airbus in a statement sent to AFP.

No certainty for Spain

The group, which had 131,349 employees at December 31, announced at the end of June the elimination of 5,100 jobs in Germany, 5,000 in France, 1,700 in the United Kingdom, 900 in Spain and 1,300 at its other sites around the world.

The situation is not yet decided in Spain, where “the social process started later”.

"Efforts are continuing to achieve the objectives of the adaptation plan in this country", adds the European aircraft manufacturer.

The collapse of air traffic and its lasting consequences for airlines have led the group to reduce its production rates for commercial aircraft by nearly 40%.

The use of voluntary departures and state aid for partial unemployment or to support research and development with a view to low-carbon aviation have made it possible to avoid forced departures.

A plan concluded in the summer

The announcement was made on Wednesday at a European works council during which Airbus "confirmed to the social partners that its Covid-19 adaptation plan would be formally concluded no later than summer 2021".

He specifies that he "will continue to assess the last measures to be implemented over the next few weeks".

If the Force Ouvrière union affirmed in October that there would be no redundancies in France, the executive chairman of the group Guillaume Faury had so far refused to commit to this point.

In Germany, "the threats of dismissal are ruled out" and "instead, intelligent solutions have been found", welcomed in a statement Daniel Friedrich, head of the IG Metall union for the Hamburg region (north).
