Empower’s portfolio grows 6% to 1,252 buildings by the end of 2020

The Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower) announced that the total number of buildings it provides with cooling services has grown to 1,252 buildings by the end of 2020, a growth rate of 6% compared to 2019.

In a statement yesterday, the Foundation stated that the quality and uses of the projects that were provided with its services were distributed by 64% for residential buildings, and 15% for commercial and office buildings, noting that the share of the hospitality sector increased to 14%, an increase of 1% from last year, while the share of the health sector increased to 3%, and the remaining 4% was distributed to sectors: education, entertainment, shopping malls, and others.

Empower pointed out that during the year 2020 it continued to link unique projects in Dubai with district cooling services, most notably “Ain Dubai” on the island of “Blue Waters”, and three “Dubai Metro” stations within the “Route 2020”, in addition to its annexation of “Avani hotels”. Palm View, Adagio the Palm, Paramount Tower, and 7 palm are added to the hotel portfolio that it provides with its services.

She emphasized that the performance of the corporation shows an increasing demand from project developers and real estate owners for district cooling services provided by Empower, which explains the huge growth in the portfolio of projects that benefit from its environmentally friendly services.

Empower CEO Ahmed bin Shafar said that Dubai’s urban renaissance has cemented the trends of the real estate development industry in adopting energy-efficient solutions to ensure greater protection of the environment and the resources of future generations.

He added that 70% of the total electric energy production in the UAE is consumed in cooling operations, hence the importance of adopting district cooling services solutions, as it provides 50% of that energy used, which is in line with the vision and strategy of Dubai Clean Energy 2050 aimed at transforming the emirate into A global center for clean energy, green economy, and strengthening its position to become the city with the lowest carbon footprint in the world.

Bin Shafar pointed out that the building sectors that use district cooling service solutions with international standards include all major sectors in Dubai such as residential, commercial, hospitality, health care, educational institutions, shopping and entertainment centers and commercial centers, pointing out that the number of buildings benefiting from services has increased.
