Call charges for making calls from NTT East and West landlines to SoftBank and KDDI mobile phones will be reduced from May.

Call charges for making calls from fixed-line phones of NTT East and West to the mobile phones of the three major mobile phone companies are set by the mobile phone company.

The call charge per 3 minutes is 120 yen for calling to Softbank's mobile phone, 90 yen for KDDI, and 60 yen for NTT DoCoMo, of which the connection fee according to the call time remains paid to NTT East and West Japan. That is the income of each mobile phone company.

A meeting of experts from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications was held on the 2nd to consider reviewing this fee, and it was reported that KDDI and Softbank will reduce it to 60 yen for 3 minutes, which is the same level as NTT DoCoMo, from May.

From October, NTT East and NTT West are planning to set call charges on behalf of major mobile phone companies, and are considering reducing the call charges per 3 minutes to 60 yen or less.

According to a calculation by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, if NTT East and NTT West set the charges, the burden on users is expected to be about 18.5 billion yen per year, which is about 9 billion yen less than before.
