The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry has compiled a trial calculation that if the introduction of renewable energy progresses according to the target, the purchase cost by electric power companies will increase by about 1 trillion yen from last year in 2030.

Since most of the purchase cost is added to the electricity price, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry is planning to consider the expansion of renewable energy and the way the people should bear the burden.

Renewable energies such as solar and wind accounted for 18% of total power sources last year, and the current target is to increase it from 22% to 24% in 2030.

Renewable energy is obliged to be purchased by major electric power companies, and most of the cost is added to the electricity bill and borne by the people.

According to estimates by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, if the ratio of renewable energy rises from 22% to 24% in 2030, the total purchase cost will exceed the actual value of 3.1 trillion yen last year by about 1 trillion yen. It is expected to increase from 3.9 trillion yen to 4.4 trillion yen.

Furthermore, if it is expanded to 25%, which exceeds the target, it is expected to be 4.9 trillion yen.

In order to expand renewable energy, it is necessary to improve the power grid, etc. We will continue to consider how the burden should be.
