Customers are snatching the big SUVs from the manufacturers. At the same time, politics and the public are pushing for corporations to make their fleets more ecological. Otherwise there is a high penalty. The solution, at least from the manufacturer's point of view, is called PHEV. The abbreviation stands for Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle - i.e. a vehicle that has both an internal combustion engine and an electric drive, the battery of which can be recharged again and again with household electricity or at public charging stations. The idea sells well. But their triumphant advance is accompanied by increasingly louder background noises.
