Serge Papin, former CEO of Système U and mediator to the Minister of Agriculture, estimated Saturday on Europe 1 that the principle of annual negotiations between farmers and representatives of mass distribution should give way to a system of "multi-year" negotiations , with a price of agricultural raw materials determined by production costs.

INTERVIEW

Farmers are entering the home stretch of annual trade negotiations with mass distribution and food manufacturers.

An often difficult moment during which the prices of their productions are fixed.

While these discussions must end on Monday, in the night from Friday to Saturday, farmers demonstrated across France in front of supermarkets, a way to put pressure on large distribution.

"These negotiations are still under tension. We should stop this balance of power which is supported by the agricultural world. It is a kind of injustice", admitted Saturday, at the microphone of Europe Soir, Serge Papin, former CEO of U system and mediator with the Minister of Agriculture.

Set up "multi-year and contractual negotiations"

"We have a system that pulls everything down," he explains.

"We need different rules."

According to Serge Papin, the principle of annual negotiations exacerbates tensions.

He believes that the discussions should be spread over the year.

"I suggest that we get out of these annual negotiations and move into multi-year negotiations, therefore contractual, which will give more time, and which will allow dialogue, the sharing of value and not the balance of power. which is challenged every year. "

Finally, Serge Papin believes that safeguards should be put in place to guarantee farmers decent remuneration.

In particular, he proposes to set a price for agricultural raw materials "on the basis of known production costs".

These prices will then be used as a basis for commercial contracts.

"These indicators of production costs will be the justice of the peace on the right price paid to farmers," he said.
