Regulated gas prices applied by Engie will increase by 5.7% on average on March 1, under the cumulative effect of a rise in prices caused by a cold snap this winter in Asia and increased use of stocks Europeans in January, the regulator announced on Friday.

“This increase is 1.5% for customers who use gas for cooking, 3.4% for those who have dual use, cooking and hot water, and 5.9% for homes that heat themselves. gas ”detailed the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE) in a press release.

Strong global demand

According to CRE, this price increase is explained by an increase in “market prices”, “supported this winter by strong global demand (…) due to the cold snap on the Asian continent”.

"To this factor is added a strong demand on storage in Europe in January as well as the continued increase in oil prices", added the regulator.

The law provides for the gradual extinction by 2023 of regulated gas sales tariffs (TRV) for individuals.

They have already been removed for professional consumers since December 1.

Since January 1, 2019, regulated tariffs have fallen by 9.2% in all, and their level remains lower than that of 2015, underlines CRE.
