The number of planned termination of employment contracts, linked to an employment safeguard plan (PSE) procedure, has passed the 100,000 mark since March and the start of the Covid-19 crisis, according to data published this morning. Thursday by the Ministry of Labor.
Cumulatively between March 1, 2020 and February 21, 103,392 termination of employment contracts were considered within the framework of PSE.
This is "almost three times more than over the same period the previous year", where this figure was 36,247, specifies the statistics department (Dares), which points out that 884 PSE have been initiated since March (against 498 of the March 1, 2019 to February 21, 2020).
One third of cases in the manufacturing industry
In nearly half of the cases, these planned breaks concern companies with 1,000 or more employees, and in nearly three out of ten cases companies with less than 250 employees.
The manufacturing industry sector accounts for 32% of breakdowns, followed by that of trade and automobile repair (19%), then by that of transport and warehousing (15%).
Since early March 2020, nearly 6,900 collective redundancy procedures for economic reasons (excluding PSE) have been notified, adds Dares.
In more than nine out of ten cases, these procedures concern redundancies of less than 10 employees.
The most represented sectors are automobile trade and repair (19%), manufacturing industry (17%), construction (15%) and accommodation and food services (13%).
