It was one of the best known and most revolutionary opticians, thanks to powerful advertising campaigns and unusual innovations in this sector at the time.
José María Ferri, founder of Visionlab,
one of the main chains of optical centers in Spain, died last Thursday in Madrid at the age of 83, as announced by the company.
He dedicated 35 years of his life to optics.
He began his career in the sector at Ortor, an optician and orthopedic company located on Carretas street, in Madrid, and in 1970 he founded his first optician on Paseo de las Delicias, under the name Ferri Ópticos.
Later it expanded in the south of Madrid.
In 1985 he founded Visionlab under the concept "Your glasses in 1 hour".
He decided to unite the optical service and the laboratory where the lenses are manufactured in the same space, which was a revolution at the time, and thanks to that he created the first optician in Europe to deliver prescription glasses in just one hour.
Visionary
He created the concept of "the great centers of vision."
This is because he opened opticians in larger spaces than usual, precisely to join the laboratory and the store.
So the usual thing was to find small optics, about 60 square meters.
Those of Visionlab were around 1,000 square meters.
"For more than 35 years,
José María Ferri has been the essence and engine of the company,
with very special attention to the professionals who are part of the company, instilling in them his philosophy, work capacity and great professionalism, which have allowed positioning to Visionlab as one of the leading companies in the optical market nationwide, "the company said in a statement.
The group highlights
its "special ability to anticipate at Visionlab
what the world of optics would be like in future times."
Today Visionlab is the only optician chain with its own factory and manufactures more than 2,500 lenses a day.
It has 117 centers in Spain and Portugal, all owned by the company and spread over almost 100 cities.
