Help increase the income of low-income workers

Will this year be the year of minimum wage adjustment?

In 2020, the adjustment of the minimum wage standard will basically be "frozen", and most provinces have not adjusted the minimum wage standard. This year, the minimum wage standard will restart to rise. What are the considerations?

Su Hainan, a special researcher of the Chinese Labor Association, told a reporter from Chinanews.com that according to regulations, the minimum wage is adjusted every two to three years. Last year, most provinces did not adjust the minimum wage, mainly because of the impact of the epidemic and the slowdown in economic growth. Taking into account the difficulties of enterprises, the rise of the minimum wage is naturally suspended under this background.

Su Hainan believes that China’s economy will continue to improve in 2021. International and domestic forecasts predict that the economic growth rate this year will be higher than last year. In the context of the new situation, coupled with the fact that most provinces did not adjust the minimum wage last year, some provinces may start from 2019. There is no adjustment. Therefore, the minimum wage standards have been adjusted in many places this year. This is supported by the recovery of economic growth and the policy requirements of following the minimum wage system to adjust the frequency. It is a practical need to promote low-wage workers in enterprises to increase their income.

Su Hainan said that the adjustment of the minimum wage must deal with the balance between guaranteeing the minimum labor remuneration rights of employees and the enterprise's affordability. It must not only meet the basic living needs of low-income workers and their dependents, but also ensure that the enterprise To be able to withstand the increase in labor costs driven by the rise in the minimum wage and achieve sustainable development, the two must grasp a degree of mutual coordination and balance.
